David Hosts Guest Teacher

This demo class will be taught in David’s Workshop / Studio in Santa Rosa, California.

In addition to the three-day Demo presentation by Malcolm Tibbetts, all students will have the opportunity to talk with David and view numerous pieces from his television show Woodworks.

In this three-day demo-style class, Malcolm Tibbetts, the author of the critically acclaimed book, The Art of Segmented Woodturning, will instruct students on many aspects of this fascinating art form. While the class is open to all, some experience in basic woodworking and woodturning is encouraged. Malcolm will show how he designs and builds vessels and will demonstrate many different feature ring constructions. Technique and jigs will be presented such as “how to cut precise segments”, “how to build a sanding jig”, “gluing and clamping tricks”, “how to build a porthole-style feature ring”, “compound miter construction”, “how to build a segmented ribbon”, and “how to build a segmented sphere from mitered triangles”. Malcolm is known for his segmented sculptures and he will also share both the inspiration and techniques involved with this style of woodturning.
