Texas Swing December 2004

Happy New Year and hello to all of my friends in Texas, old and new!

Mike Sauder & Rusty Fennell

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mike Sauder, a really great guy who owns the Texas Woodcraft stores for hosting my classes. Mike is responsible for my visits to the San Antonio, Austin, Houston, and Ft. Worth stores. I would also like to thank Rusty Fennell for organizing the trip. It was quite a road trip and I had a fantastic time.

This ten day trip was kicked off with a visit to Kerrville where I was honored to be one of the judges for the Fifth Annual Texas Furniture Makers Show in Kerrville along with Curtis Whitttington, master-craftsman and Robin Black nationally acclaimed interior designer. A special thanks to Johnny Jones who was kind enough to pick me up at the airport and be my tour guide. He and his wife entertained me as a guest in their home for two days and at my request arranged for a visit to James Johnson’s place. By the way, Johnny, thank you for the left handed pattern maker’s rasp. I think will get a lot of use out of it.

James Johnson is an amazing woodturner working on a very large scale. James was kind enough to take Johnny and me on a tour of his home and woodworking shop. This was one of the highlights of my trip as I was taking in much information as possible because I am in the process of working on some large scale turnings. It was very exciting for me to travel to the different Woodcraft stores and to meet a lot of the viewers that watch my television show Woodworks.

Woodcraft Ft. Worth

I really enjoyed meeting all of the individual personalities and hearing about their woodworking experiences. We wrapped up the trip by attending the The Woodworking Show in Arlington where I was able to meet some more fans of the show.

I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to a special Texan Philip Wise, my webmaster and good friend. I met Philip last year in Austin at the Woodcraft store. Philip offered to help me with my website, and the rest is history. Phillip, I think many of the people that have seen your work on my website will thank you as well.
